Review: Taylor Swift Journal “Be Yourself, There Is No One Better” by Dawn Stewart

There’s no doubt that singer Taylor Swift has become a cultural phenomenon. So why not merge a passion for mental health with the superstar? That’s what therapist Dawn Stewart, MA RCC did when she created the fan-made journal “Be Yourself, There Is No One Better: A Guided Journal Inspired by the Music and Magic of all the Eras.”

Using the skills she’s developed over 20 years as a mental health practicioner, Stewart uses Taylor Swift songs as journal prompts. Each one invites a fan to reflect on their feelings, values and relationships. As a Taylor Swift fan, I loved this journal. It’s beautifully designed, with special touches that highlight the authors’ own love of Taylor’s work.

The possibilities for this journal are endless: take it page by page (or track by track) or shuffle. Journal for 4- 5 minutes, 20 or half an hour. It makes this tool accessible for everyone, teaching agency, emotional regulation and self reflection at the same time.

Grounding exercises (as journal prompts) are also offered, giving

the writer a chance to come home to themselves before they dive into why “Love Story” or “Tolerate It” resonates with them. Because the lyrics are so varied in theme, people will find themselves unraveling details about their childhood, past hurts, and future hopes. The writer can then share their discoveries with a therapist or mentor.

If you’re a mental health professional who works with Swifties, this is a must have resource. And if you’re a fan like me, you’ll find this a delightful way to mesh two of your passions together: mental health and Taylor Swift!

“Be Yourself, There Is No One Better “ is available now on Amazon. It is not endorsed by Taylor Swift or Taylor Nation.
